Educational Philosophy

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.

~ John Dewey

Our simple educational philosphy: we learn as we live and we celebrate what we learn!

Destination Imagination

Check back here soon for some pics from the girls' DI performance at DI States on April 5. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. The only homeschool team there, Team Rubbish, won the Instant Challenge portion of the competition and they came in second among SWITCH middle level teams. Their skit was clever and funny. Their set was innovative and their costumes (all made from trash bags and other recycled stuff including a newspaper hat) were unique. The actors did a great job. They can be proud of their performance as first-timers. Some of our team pics are fuzzy so we are waiting on better ones from other team members. For now, here are the girls modeling some of the team costumes -- a waitress (wearing a target bag skirt), an old lady (wearing an ironed trash bag stuffed with bag boobs), an artist (wearing ironed grocery bags with tissue attached), an announcer (wearing trash bag pants and vest with cumberbund and tie), and a dishwasher (more trash bag pants). We'll also download the video and link it here.

Destination Imagination

Today we opened our Bucket O Fun from Destination Imagination. We completed our first instant challenge. We were supplied some materials. The instructions said to suspend as many items from the block bag as possible in 7 minutes. They had to hang at least 2 inches above the ground and we could only use the materials that were provided. Here are some pictures of our first attempt and our final solution. The biggest challenge was learning to think before starting and the second biggest challenge was cooperating! In the end, we suspended 17 items from the block bag from our contraption.
