Educational Philosophy

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.

~ John Dewey

Colonial Pots

We are currently studying the colonial period in America. As part of our studies, we painted a colonial teapot. These pots, found at Art in History (linked above), were likely modeled after Islamic coffee pots and Chinese wine pourers. Floral designs were largely used because of their beauty and the meanings they had. Chinese patterns such as those we tried to copy above were widely copied throughout Europe and America. Our pots have peonies (reprsenting wealth), roses (representing love), plum petals (representing the beauty of life), and mums (representing logevity). Here are our pots!
