The Point Betsie Lighthouse is located on the Lake Michigan shore in Benzie County, Michigan. Point Betsie is the second most photographed lighthouse in the USA. Point Betsie marks the southern entrance to the Manitou Passage, a point of land that was originally known as "Point Aux Bec Scies," which means "sawed beak point". The lighthouse was built in 1858 and the life saving station was built in 1875. The light is 52 feet above the lake and has a range of 27.5 miles. The lighthouse had many keepers for 106 years but it was automated in 1983.
