Educational Philosophy

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.

~ John Dewey

Fun Science

We just participated in a seed germination experiment entitled Tomatosphere. We planted two sets of seeds and recorded germination data for both. One set had been in space conditions and the other was the control set. We were not told which was which. At the end, we turned in our data to the Tomatosphere website and found out what results other classrooms had and which seeds had been in simjulated space conditions. Our experiment found that 100% of the seeds in spacelike conditions germinated and only 75% of the control seeds germinated.

We also just participated in a Forensic Science class. We learned how to differentiate between cat, dog and animal hair. We learned how to get fingerprints from surfaces and how to use traditional fingerprinting. We learned how to identify human blood. We learned how to use a mold to save a footprint marking. Finally, we learned how to analyze handwriting samples.
